USCIS Updates Immigration Forms July 2017

USCIS frequently updates immigration forms. Updates may include adding or even removing questions, updating the form format, or even new eligibility or new additional documentation requirements. Before filling out and submitting a form, it is key that applicants make sure they are completing the latest version of the form in question. Sending the incorrect version of a form can lead to delays and even rejection of an application. It is paramount always to use the latest version of each form.

What forms were updated in July 2017?

The following is a comprised list of all the forms that were updated in July 2017, as well as the correct versions you should send when filing an application.

> Form I-730, Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition Form I-730, Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition is used by those who have been admitted to the United States as a principal refugee or who were granted status in the United States as a principle asylee within the previous two years. You may file Form I-730 to request follow-to-join benefits for your spouse and/or unmarried children under 21 years of age only.

New edition dated 05/30/17. Starting 9/15/2017, only the 05/30/17 edition will be accepted. Until then, you can use the 04/09/15 edition.

> Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All U.S. employers must ensure proper completion of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens. Both employees and employers (or authorized representatives of the employer) must complete the form.

New edition dated 07/17/17. Employers can use this revised version or continue using Form I-9 with a revision date of 11/14/16 N through Sept. 17, 2017.

> Form N-565, Application for Replacement Naturalization/Citizenship Document Form N-565, Application for Replacement Naturalization/Citizenship Document, is used to apply for a replacement Declaration of Intention, Naturalization Certificate, Certificate of Citizenship, or Repatriation Certificate, or to apply for a special certificate of naturalization as a U.S. citizen to be recognized by a foreign country.

New edition dated 06/13/17. Starting 09/22/2017, only the 06/13/17 edition will be accepted. Until then, you can use the 12/23/16 edition.

How do I know if I am sending the correct version of a specific form?

To make sure you are submitting the correct version of a form, simply check the bottom of the page where you will find the code name of the form followed by a date. The date shown reflects the date that particular form was last updated, or its edition date. To know if you are filing the correct form, check the edition date at the bottom.
